Aisha Khalid lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
Aisha Khalid is an artist, curator and an art educationist. Her site-specific installation at the Shahi Hammam, Lahore consisted of gouache on paper, mirrors and a textile piece that incorporated gold-plated steel pins.
The artist explains, “although I live in Lahore, my thinking process is shaped by events of significance as they take place globally. In recent memories two very strong sets of images come to mind in relation to the colour orange that features heavily in the work. Firstly are the orange life jackets of Syrian refugees as they appear in the news, and closer to home orange functions as a marker of constant construction, pointing to the changing transportation infrastructures of the city that also ultimately interfere with the historic architecture of the city.”
Khalid graduated from the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 1997, and was resident at Rijksakademie, Amsterdam in 2001-2002. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including at the Fukuoka Triennale 2001, Venice Biennale 2009, Sharjah Biennial 2011 and Moscow Biennial 2013. Her work is in several museum and private collections all over the world, including the Aga Khan Museum Toronto, M+ Museum Hong Kong, V&A Museum, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum Japan, Sharjah Art Foundation, Queensland Art Gallery, Australia, and Sheikh Zayed Museum UAE
