At the first ever artSPEAK event, emerging artists Zoya Siddiqui and Farwa Hassan were invited to share their experience as the recipients of the Theertha Performance Platform Award, and to expand upon how their practice related to performance art. The talk took place at Gallery 39K on June 8, 2015.

About the artists
Zoya Siddiqui, a visual artist, is a recent Beaconhouse National University graduate based in Lahore. Her practice traverses performance, video, video-installation and digital photography. Each body of work stems as a response to its own context and specificities. Siddiqui has been part of residencies at the Vasl Artists Collective Karachi, In-Situ UK and Triangle Arts Association, NY. Recent shows include ‘Geology of a Home,’ a solo opening at the Brierfield Mill, ‘Points of Convergence,’ a solo show at Rohtas, ‘Home,’ a group show at Canvas, and ‘Everything Is Embedded in History’ at the Lahore Literary Festival.

Farwa Hassan graduated from the Beaconhouse National University in 2014 and has showcased her works in Lahore and Islamabad. She currently resides in Lahore. Her main subject is her own body, with her work exploring its physical limitations in order to invoke discomfort. In doing so, she comments upon conformity and its values. Her chosen mediums are performance and video.
